“In the preparations for refloating and undocking of a new yacht in the German Naval Yards Kiel Co. (formerly ADM Kiel Co.), it was necessary to secure Dock Gate 8a with an anchoring device. The draught of the yacht made it imperative to flood Docks 8 and 8a 70 cm / 27.56 in higher. These additional forces on Dock Gate 8a had to be absorbed by an anchor design.

To connect the counterweights with the dock gate, five special M72 tension rod systems were used. Taking the material stretching and the proper sealing of the dock gate into account, thick-walled pipes of 219.1 x 16 mm / 8.63 x 0.63 in were used for cross-section enlargement. The design of the special tension rods and another 25 special bolts for the lower closure of the dock gate were agreed in collaboration with Mr. Michael Freitag, the department head of building techniques at German Naval Yards Kiel GmbH, and Mürmann Gewindetechnik GmbH.”
