A sustainable and innovative plant for the production of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues is currently being built in Podari, in the southwest of Romania. It is being built on a 10-hectare site, from where it will have access to a secure regional supply of feedstock. Once operational, the plant will process approximately 250,000 tonnes of straw annually to produce 50,000 tonnes of cellulosic ethanol. This is an advanced, truly sustainable and carbon-neutral biofuel that can easily be blended with conventional fuel and used in today’s car infrastructure. In the long term, up to 100 people will be employed directly at the plant, while about 300 jobs will be created in associated businesses, e.g. in the collection, storage and transport of the feedstock. The project is funded by the EU within the framework of various research and innovation programmes. In cooperation with the Romanian representative Rolis, LISEGA succeeded in obtaining an order for the ethanol plant directly from the operator. This plant also includes a biomass cogeneration plant, which will supply electricity and process steam for the ethanol plant. For this purpose, LISEGA is cooperating closely with the German plant manufacturer. LISEGA supplies supports for both the ethanol plant and the biomass cogeneration plant.
